Older bikes had chrome steel pipe clamped in the triple trees, sliding inside the aluminium outer case at the bottom, with its cast in axle clamps. This "Conventional" front fork is still used on many retro cruisers, while modern road and offroad sport bikes often use Up-Side Down (USD) fork legs.
