Motorcycle Shock Absorber Service Ports

Not all motorbike rear dampers are designed to be serviced - some OEM coilovers have cheap tricks like peened over ends and crimped tubes - so if you aren't sure whether your shock absorber can be rebuilt find out in our FAQ on serviceable shocks. Even if it isn't meant to be repaired that doesn't necessarily mean you can't - this category has kits that can help turn your non-rebuildable shock into a serviceable unit.

Most rebuildable single tube shocks have at least one servicing port drilled into the main shock body. It means that the old oil can be drained from a bleed screw sealed with an o-ring, and fresh nitrogen gas can be injected via a re-gassing needle through a rubber sealing plug, or filled through a schrader (tyre) valve - see our regassing tools for all the servicing options.

More advanced piggyback shock bodies don't need a drain bolt or air refilling valves drilled into the cast aluminium alloy body - find out more about different styles in our shock buying guide. Since there is a big gas bladder in the reservoir, all the used oil can be emptied there, and once overhauled the damper regassed through the bladder cap.

Remember that we also sell Shock Bladder Upgrades for tuning your suspension - extra bladder capacity for plushness and cooling, short caps for extra clearance, internal floating piston to bladder conversions - in a variety of colourful anodized shades too!
