Although lightweight modern air forks use pneumatic pressure as the main spring, they still use steel coil balance springs to linearise response. Air alone produces a very progressive spring rate — firm near full travel but very soft at initial movement. Kayaba introduced the PSF light-wire compression spring to firm the starting force in PSF1 and PSF2 forks.
Improve PSF air fork linearity and top-out protection
- Provide a light initial spring rate to reduce overly progressive air spring behaviour
- Sold individually and act as a rebound stroke top-out bumper inside PSF1/PSF2 forks
- Tune spring rates and PSI for rider weight — see our spring selection article
- For fitting use KYB specific tools and our air fork hand pumps and gauges
- If you prefer conventional springs, consider our air to spring conversion kits
