An internal damping cartridge cylinder sits in the middle of the outer case tubes inside most oil filled motorbike front forks. The suspension fluid can either be shared with the rest of the fork leg, or can be separately sealed - read more in our Closed vs Open Chamber Forks technical article.

Inside each cartridge insert slides a rebound rod. Sealing oil between the two are rubber shaft seals & a backup ring. The bands are often held in place at the top & bottom of the cartridge pipes inside one of these machined alloy seal holder cases, with their own o-rings, bushes, washers & spring seats.
