Motorcycle Shock Shaft & Mounting Lug Lock Nuts

Right in the centre of your motorbike's coilover is the shocks shaft. At the top end it holds the piston inside the shock absorber body while at the bottom end it screws onto the Clevis or Yoke - locked strongly onto the main rod using one of these OEM KYB or Showa jamnuts. Exposed to mud and lots of dynamic forces, locknuts should be cleaned & serviced just as often as their neighbouring linkage bearings & seals.

A clevis has a split fork of two tabs with a gap between them (like the diagram shown), while a yoke has just one wide ring sticking down (much like the top of a shock body) - see our shock shaft base end eyes.
They mount the suspension to the rear swingarm or link, and often hold the rebound adjuster too - read our DIY damping adjustment guide to use it correctly. Just the clicker is in the end eye assembly - the rest of the internals are inside the damper shaft.
