Older motorbikes use a pair of coilovers, one on each side of the rear swingarm, while most modern bikes use a monoshock with the single main coil spring wrapped around the damper. Springs are specified by inner diameter (millimetres) and free height (millimetres); fitment often needs a seating ring or washer and careful preload.
