The Tractive X-TREME Shock for the BMW R 1300 GS is a closed, pressurised rear shock built around a sealed cartridge-style architecture for consistent damping. This “Basic” configuration is designed for riders who want robust, repeatable performance without complexity. Based on the configuration, it includes external adjustments for compression, rebound and spring preload.

Design & features

  • Closed, pressurised shock design to help maintain consistent damping behaviour over a wide range of conditions.
  • Sealed internal architecture intended to protect the damping components and oil from contamination.
  • Fitted with a remote reservoir (hose-mounted) with internal oil/gas separation.

Tuning Controls

  • Compression damping adjustment.
  • Rebound damping adjustment.
  • Spring preload adjustment via a hydraulic preload adjuster (hose-mounted).

Base Setup (factory preset)

This shock is supplied with a baseline tune from Tractive. Fine-tuning is typically done by setting preload for ride height and balance, then adjusting rebound and compression to suit load, tyres and riding conditions.

Who is this for?

  • BMW R 1300 GS riders who want straightforward external adjusters for setup changes across road and mixed-surface use.
  • Riders who carry varying luggage or a passenger and want convenient preload changes.
  • Owners looking for a pressurised, reservoir-equipped shock configuration focused on consistency and control.

Before You Install

  • Confirm fitment for your exact BMW R 1300 GS variant and build year before installation.
  • Plan reservoir and hydraulic preload adjuster hose routing to avoid heat sources and moving parts.
  • After installation, re-check fastener torque and verify clearance through suspension travel.

Serviceability/Lifecycle

As a pressurised, sealed shock with a reservoir and external adjusters, periodic servicing helps maintain performance over time. Service intervals depend on use conditions, especially off-road dust, water exposure, and sustained heat.
