Shock design & features

This is an oil/gas separated monotube rear shock using the STX 46 Adventure architecture. The separated gas design helps maintain damping consistency during sustained use, especially when riding over corrugations and repeated impacts. The construction is intended for harsh conditions typical of adventure riding.

Tuning controls

The shock includes external damping adjustment for rebound and compression, allowing you to fine-tune behaviour for terrain, speed and load. It also includes a hydraulic spring preload adjuster to quickly compensate for luggage or a pillion without disassembly.

Base setup (factory preset)

This unit is supplied with an Ohlins baseline setup intended to suit the standard application, providing a workable starting point for most riders. From there, use preload to set ride height for your load and adjust rebound/compression to match grip, comfort and stability needs.

Confirm fitment to the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin with Showa components and check that the supplied spring suits your typical riding weight and load. If you regularly ride with heavy luggage or a pillion, an optional spring is noted for this model.
