The Tractive X-CITE shock for the BMW R 1150 GS is a closed, pressurised monotube damper built around a 46 mm piston architecture to maintain consistent damping and reduce aeration under sustained use. This configuration uses a separated oil and gas design via an internal separation piston rather than an emulsion layout. Rebound damping adjustment is provided, along with a coil spring and a fixed hydraulic preload adjuster for practical load changes.

Design & features

  • Closed, pressurised monotube construction for consistent damping behaviour
  • Separated oil and gas using an internal separation piston (not an emulsion shock)
  • Coil spring supplied
  • Hydraulic preload adjuster fitted in a fixed (non-remote) configuration

Tuning Controls

  • Rebound damping adjustment
  • Hydraulic preload adjustment

Base Setup (factory preset)

Baseline damping and spring setup are configured by Tractive for the BMW R 1150 GS application, with rebound and preload available to fine-tune feel and support for rider load and luggage.

Before You Install

  • Set sag and preload for your typical load (solo, luggage, or pillion) before fine-tuning rebound
  • After installation, re-check fasteners and clearances after the first rides
  • If you are replacing a worn shock, allow time to dial in rebound to match tyre choice and riding conditions

Serviceability/Lifecycle

As a pressurised monotube design, correct servicing requires controlled depressurisation and recharging, along with fresh oil and seals as required. Periodic servicing helps maintain damping consistency over time, especially with regular touring or rough-road use.
