The Ohlins AP660 STX 46 Supersport rear shock is built for controlled damping and consistent feel in demanding road and track use on the Aprilia RS 660 and Tuono 660. It uses a pressurised oil/gas separated design to help maintain damping stability as temperatures and loads change. This unit is intended for the rear mono-shock position.

Shock design & features

This is a mono-shock with a pressurised, oil/gas separated damping system rather than an emulsion layout. Separating oil and gas helps reduce aeration under sustained use and supports repeatable damping performance.

Tuning controls

• Rebound damping: controls how quickly the shock extends after being compressed, influencing stability and grip as the bike transitions off the brake and onto throttle.
• Compression damping: controls resistance to shock movement under load, influencing support during braking and load transfer, plus bump absorption.
• Spring preload: sets the operating point in the stroke and rear ride balance, influencing traction, turning behaviour and comfort.

Base setup (factory preset)

The supplied baseline valving and spring fitment are intended as a workable starting point for typical RS 660 / Tuono 660 use across a range of rider weights. Final performance depends on correct sag and aligning damping settings to tyres, pace and surface.

Before you install

Confirm rear sag and overall front-to-rear balance before making damping changes. Make one adjustment at a time and evaluate on the same section of road or within the same track session so cause and effect remain clear. If the bike feels harsh over sharp bumps, review compression first; if it feels unsettled after bumps or on corner exit, review rebound.

Serviceability/lifecycle

This Ohlins unit is designed to be maintained with periodic oil and seal service to keep damping consistent. Service needs vary with use intensity, heat exposure and contamination, and will generally be more frequent with regular track use.
