The Ohlins STX 46 Supersport rear shock absorber is a complete replacement for the original rear suspension unit on the Yamaha YZF R7. This unit is supplied with a factory-defined damping configuration developed specifically for the YZF R7 chassis. The standard setting is intended as a solid baseline for general road and track use, with adjustment range available to tailor feel and support.

Shock design & features

This is a gas-pressurised monotube shock with separated oil and gas, using an external reservoir to help maintain internal pressure and oil control during sustained operation. The architecture is designed to reduce damping variation during repeated high-load events such as spirited road riding and track sessions.

Tuning controls

The supplied baseline setting is intended to suit the R7 platform as delivered, providing a starting point for setup work. Final ride behaviour will still depend on spring selection, preload and damping settings relative to rider weight, riding style and tyres.

Serviceability/lifecycle

The shock is fully rebuildable and can be serviced to restore performance over time. Internal settings can be altered during servicing if required when rider needs exceed the original design parameters of the damper.
