Information

The Ohlins KA1790 is an STX 46 MX rear mono shock absorber for Kawasaki KX 85 applications. Built around Ohlins motocross damping know-how, it’s intended to deliver controlled, consistent suspension behaviour in demanding conditions. This unit is supplied without a spring, with fitment notes specifying the appropriate Ohlins spring series.

STX 46 MX shocks are designed for off-road racing where traction, stability and repeatable damping matter. The KA1790 sits in Ohlins’ MX & Enduro shock range and follows their serviceable, tune-focused approach.

Shock design & features

This shock uses an oil/gas separated layout to help maintain damping consistency during hard use. The STX architecture is designed to provide controlled movement through the stroke and predictable chassis response.

Tuning controls

The KA1790 provides rebound damping adjustment along with compression damping adjustment in two circuits, allowing you to tailor response to track conditions and rider preference. These external adjusters support baseline setup changes without internal revalving.

Base setup (factory preset)

Ohlins supply these units with a factory baseline intended as a starting point before setting sag and balance for the bike and rider. Final setup will depend on spring choice, track surface and pace.

Before you install

No spring is supplied with this shock. The notes indicate a 00698-series spring is required and is sold separately, so confirm spring selection before installation.
