The Ohlins YA2090 STX 46 MX is a rear mono shock developed for the Yamaha YZ 85, built around Ohlins off-road damping architecture for clear feedback and controlled traction. It is intended to provide consistent performance through changing track conditions and repeated hard impacts. Spring is supplied separately, allowing the final rate to be matched to rider weight and use.

This STX 46 MX unit is designed to deliver a controlled, predictable rear end that supports braking stability and drive out of corners. The focus is on usable adjustment and repeatable damping behaviour suitable for motocross use.

Shock design & features

Rear mono shock layout for Yamaha YZ 85 fitment
Oil/gas separated damping design for consistency under heat and load
Valving developed from Ohlins motocross programs to prioritise traction and chassis control
Supplied without spring so the correct rate can be selected during setup

Tuning controls

External damping adjustments include compression and rebound, allowing you to balance support under braking and jump landings with grip and comfort over chop. These controls are intended to make track-to-track changes straightforward without altering internal components.

Spring is not supplied; select and fit an appropriate spring before use
Confirm correct installation orientation and clearances for the YZ 85 chassis
Set sag and damping as part of the initial setup to suit rider weight and track conditions

Serviceability/lifecycle

Like all performance motocross shocks, routine servicing helps maintain consistent damping and seal life. Plan periodic oil and wear-part replacement based on hours of use and riding conditions, especially in dusty or high-heat environments.
