The Ohlins BM507 STX 36 Adventure is a rear shock absorber designed for BMW K 1200 GT and K 1200 RS applications. Built around Ohlins’ proven STX architecture, it focuses on controlled damping and consistent feel over varied road surfaces. It’s intended for riders who want a more tuneable suspension solution for touring and mixed-condition use.

Ohlins | Made to race, perfected to ride

Ohlins suspension units are developed with an engineering-first approach to damping control and long-term serviceability. The BM507 is part of the STX 36 Adventure family, aimed at improving stability and comfort when conditions and loads change. As a purpose-built rear unit, it targets traction and composure at the back of the motorcycle.

Who this shock is for

This rear mono shock suits riders using their K 1200 GT or K 1200 RS for touring and extended road kilometres where ride quality and chassis control matter. It’s also relevant if you want adjustability to better match your bike to different riding conditions. If your current rear suspension feels inconsistent or difficult to balance front-to-rear, a dedicated aftermarket unit can help with setup flexibility.

Shock design & features

The BM507 is an STX 36 Adventure rear shock using an emulsion design, where oil and gas are within the same main body. This layout is compact and widely used in performance rear shocks, with Ohlins focusing on damping consistency and predictable response. The unit is supplied with an Ohlins spring (00180-58).

Tuning controls

This model includes rebound damping adjustment, allowing you to fine-tune how quickly the rear shock extends after compression. Rebound tuning is typically used to manage stability over undulations and to keep the rear tyre loaded more consistently. Adjustment can be used to suit changes in riding pace and general road conditions.

Before you install

Confirm compatibility with BMW K 1200 GT and K 1200 RS, and check surrounding clearance and mounting hardware condition during installation. After fitment, set sag and verify rebound adjustment range from a known baseline so changes are repeatable. If you regularly carry luggage or a pillion, plan your setup around your most common load.

Serviceability/lifecycle

Ohlins shocks are designed to be serviced to maintain damping performance over time. Periodic inspection and servicing helps keep oil condition and internal wear under control, especially for bikes used for long-distance riding. A maintained unit will generally deliver more consistent behaviour than a sealed, non-serviceable alternative.

Öhlins Motorcycle Suspension Warranty

New Öhlins motorcycle shock absorbers, front forks and cartridge kits supplied by Teknik Motorsport are covered by the applicable Öhlins manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

Teknik Motorsport is an authorised Öhlins Service Centre and administers warranty claims in accordance with the Öhlins warranty conditions. The service intervals below form part of the maintenance requirements for Öhlins products supplied and supported by Teknik Motorsport.

This warranty is in addition to the consumer guarantees that apply under the Australian Consumer Law.

  • Registered motorcycles — non-competition road use Five years, subject to correct application, installation, setup and servicing every: 20,000 km or two years, whichever occurs first.
  • Registered motorcycles — adventure and light off-road use Five years, subject to correct application, spring rate, setup and servicing every: 10,000 km or annually, whichever occurs first.
  • Unregistered or competition motorcycles Two years for eligible Öhlins MX and Enduro products, subject to inspection every ten hours and servicing every: 30 operating hours or annually, whichever occurs first.

Compliance with the applicable service interval is a condition of the Öhlins manufacturer’s warranty. Evidence of servicing may be required when a warranty claim is assessed.

A seal leak, loss of damping performance or internal wear arising after the prescribed service interval has been exceeded will be treated as a service or maintenance issue rather than a manufacturing defect.

Warranty repairs

Öhlins suspension products are designed to be serviced and repaired. Where a warranty claim is approved, the normal remedy is repair of the customer’s original suspension unit using genuine Öhlins replacement parts.

Replacement of a complete shock absorber, fork or cartridge kit is not automatic and would normally occur only where the product has suffered a manufacturing failure that cannot reasonably be repaired. This is at Ohlins discretion.

Öhlins spare parts and service kits

Öhlins spare parts, seals, bushes, service kits, springs, fluids and individual components are covered only against defects present when supplied.

No fixed age-based warranty applies to wear items, service parts or consumable components. Wear, deterioration, contamination, incorrect installation and damage caused by another component are not manufacturing defects.

Öhlins gives the customer a meaningful five-year warranty on products (Units), provided the suspension is maintained as suspension should be maintained. Teknik supports that warranty locally, can inspect the product properly, and can repair it with genuine parts rather than discarding it.
