The Ohlins BM836 rear shock is a street-focused replacement for BMW R 100 GS and R 100 PD models, built around Ohlins STX 46 architecture. It is designed to deliver consistent damping control and improved chassis stability across everyday road use and light touring. The construction uses a separated oil/gas layout to help maintain damping consistency as conditions change.

Shock design & features

STX 46 rear shock design intended for road and mixed surface riding.
Separated oil/gas design to support stable damping behaviour and reduced fade over longer rides.
Direct-fit rear mono application for the listed BMW models.

Tuning controls

Rebound damping adjustment to tune how quickly the rear settles after bumps and weight transfer.
Spring preload adjustment to suit rider weight, luggage, and ride height preference.

Base setup (factory preset)

This unit is supplied with an Ohlins-recommended base valving and spring fitment for the application. Fine-tuning is typically done by setting preload for sag, then adjusting rebound to match tyre choice, road surface, and riding pace.

Before you install

Confirm the application is correct for your BMW R 100 GS or R 100 PD and rear mono mounting.
Inspect linkage/bushings and mounting hardware condition before fitting a new shock.
After installation, re-check fastener torque and verify free movement through suspension travel.

Serviceability/lifecycle
