The Ohlins YA835 is a rear STX 46 Street shock developed for the Yamaha FJ 1200, aimed at improving damping control and chassis stability on road use. It uses a gas-pressurised design to help maintain consistent performance as conditions change. Built around proven internal layouts, it is intended to deliver clear feedback and predictable grip.

STX 46 Street rear shock architecture
Gas-pressurised damper design for consistent damping behaviour
Valving approach aimed at improving grip and chassis control

Tuning controls

This shock provides external rebound damping adjustment. Preload adjustment is provided via the spring seat to set sag correctly for rider load and bike setup.

Base setup (factory preset)

Supplied with an Ohlins spring fitted from factory, intended as the standard starting point for the application. Final settings should be confirmed by measuring sag and then adjusting rebound to suit tyre choice, load and road conditions.

Before you install

Confirm compatibility with the Yamaha FJ 1200 and check clearance around the shock body and reservoir area during full suspension travel
Set rider sag after installation and re-check fasteners after the initial ride
If you change load (pillion/luggage), revisit preload and rebound settings

Serviceability/lifecycle

Like any performance damper, regular servicing helps maintain damping consistency and seal life. Service intervals depend on use and environment, but periodic inspection for leaks and smooth operation is recommended.
