The Tractive X-CITE shock for the BMW R nineT Urban G/S 40 Years GS is a closed, pressurised damper built around a sealed cartridge design for consistent damping and reduced aeration under repeated use. This configuration separates the damping oil from the gas using an internal floating piston rather than an emulsion layout. It is supplied as a complete rear shock assembly with an included spring and a fixed hydraulic preload adjuster.

Design & features

  • Closed, pressurised shock architecture with a sealed damping cartridge
  • Oil/gas separation via an internal piston (not an emulsion shock)
  • Remote-reservoir style layout (hoseless piggyback/fixed reservoir configuration)
  • Supplied with a spring fitted
  • Fixed hydraulic preload adjuster included for quick load compensation

Tuning Controls

  • Rebound damping adjustment
  • Preload adjustment via the hydraulic preload adjuster (fixed type)

Base Setup (factory preset)

This shock is delivered with internal valving and baseline settings established by Tractive for the intended application. Preload can be used to set ride height/sag for rider load, while rebound adjustment is used to control return speed after bumps and braking inputs.

Before You Install

  • Confirm exact model and year compatibility for the BMW R nineT Urban G/S 40 Years GS prior to fitment.
  • Plan access for the hydraulic preload adjuster so it can be reached easily once installed.
  • Set sag and preload for your typical load, then fine-tune rebound after a short test ride.

Serviceability/Lifecycle

As a sealed, pressurised cartridge shock with separated oil and gas, the damping behaviour remains more stable during sustained use than open/emulsion designs. Like any performance damper, it is intended to be serviceable as part of regular maintenance when performance begins to fade.

Is It Right For You?

This X-CITE configuration suits riders who want straightforward adjustment (rebound and hydraulic preload) and the consistency benefits of a pressurised, separated oil/gas shock. If you are chasing more tuning range beyond rebound and preload, you may prefer a configuration with additional compression adjustment.
