The Tractive X-PERIENCE shock for the BMW R 1100 S is a 46 mm rear shock built around a closed, pressurised oil/gas-separated design with a fixed reservoir. This architecture helps maintain consistent damping over long rides by keeping the damping oil under pressure and separated from the gas. It is supplied with a spring and uses external adjusters to tailor the ride to load and conditions.

Design & features

  • Closed, pressurised construction with oil/gas separation via an internal piston (not an emulsion shock).
  • Fixed reservoir layout for stable damping and thermal control in a compact package.
  • Spring-equipped configuration suited to road and sport-touring use.

Tuning Controls

  • Triple-adjustable damping: separate rebound and compression control with both high-speed and low-speed compression adjustment.
  • Adjustable spring preload for setting sag and accommodating rider, luggage, or passenger load.

Base Setup (factory preset)

The shock is supplied with a baseline tune intended to be adjusted from its delivered settings. Use sag and damping changes methodically—one change at a time—to match your weight, tyres, and typical riding conditions.

Before You Install

  • Confirm correct fitment for your exact BMW R 1100 S variant and build details before installation.
  • Inspect linkage/bearings and mounting hardware condition, as wear can mask suspension improvements.
  • Plan to set sag after installation and then fine-tune rebound and compression to suit your roads and load.

Serviceability/Lifecycle

This is a rebuildable, pressurised shock designed to be serviced to maintain performance over time. Periodic servicing helps keep damping consistency and seal condition aligned with real-world use.

Is It Right For You?

Choose this configuration if you want broad tuning range (including both high- and low-speed compression control) and a pressurised, oil/gas-separated design aimed at consistent behaviour on longer rides. If you prefer a simpler setup with fewer adjustments, a non-triple-adjustable option may be a better match.
