The Ohlins STX 46 Street rear shock is a model-specific upgrade for classic Ducati 750 and 900 platforms. Built around Ohlins monotube damping architecture, it is designed to improve chassis control, traction and stability under real-world road loads. This unit uses a separated oil/gas design to help maintain consistent damping performance as temperatures and pace increase.

STX is Ohlins street-focused shock technology developed from their competition suspension programs. The aim is predictable support through corners and better control during braking and acceleration, without turning the bike into a compromise for everyday riding.

Shock design & features

This rear shock is based on the Ohlins 46 mm piston platform and uses a pressurised gas system with oil/gas separation rather than an emulsion layout. That architecture is intended to reduce aeration and keep damping behaviour more consistent during repeated high-load events.

Tuning controls

Adjustment is provided for rebound damping and compression damping, allowing you to balance grip and chassis stability to suit tyres, load and riding style. Spring preload is also adjustable to set ride height and sag correctly for the rider and any carried weight.

Base setup (factory preset)

The shock is supplied with an Ohlins baseline setting intended to suit the standard motorcycle configuration. Fine-tuning is typically done after sag is set, then rebound and compression are adjusted to match road conditions and rider preference.

Before you install

  • Confirm fitment for your Ducati model and year, and check clearances around the shock and linkage.
  • Set rider sag and free sag before making damping changes.
  • If you change tyres, ride height or load, revisit preload and damping settings.

Serviceability/lifecycle

Ohlins shocks are fully serviceable, with wear parts and oil designed to be replaced as part of normal maintenance. Regular servicing helps keep damping response consistent and protects internal components over the life of the unit.
