The Ohlins BM541 rear shock is built to improve control and compliance on the BMW R 100 GS and R 100 PD. It uses a gas-separated damping design to keep damping consistent as conditions change. Developed from Ohlins road and competition experience, it is intended for riders who want a more settled chassis with tuneability for different loads and surfaces.

Ohlins suspension is engineered around predictable damping behaviour and repeatable adjustment. The STX architecture is designed to deliver clear feedback and stable handling without harshness, supporting confident riding on-road and on mixed surfaces.

Shock design & features

This is an STX 46-series rear monoshock with a pressurised, gas-separated layout (remote reservoir). Separating oil and gas helps maintain consistent damping performance and reduces aeration during sustained use.

Tuning controls

The shock includes external rebound damping adjustment and compression damping adjustment, allowing you to tailor response for comfort, grip and chassis support. It also includes preload adjustment to set ride height and balance for rider weight, luggage and passenger use.

Base setup (factory preset)

Ohlins supplies the shock with a proven baseline valving and spring combination intended as a starting point. From there, small changes to preload, rebound and compression can be used to match tyres, riding pace and load.

Before you install

Confirm model fitment for BMW R 100 GS and R 100 PD and inspect linkage/bushings for wear before installation. After fitting, set sag and then fine-tune damping with one change at a time to keep results clear and repeatable.

Serviceability/lifecycle

This Ohlins unit is serviceable and can be maintained with routine oil and seal replacement. Regular servicing helps preserve damping consistency and extends component life, particularly if the bike is used in wet or dusty conditions.
