The Tractive X-TREME Shock for the KTM 990 ADVENTURE R is a closed, pressurised rear shock built around a sealed cartridge architecture for consistent damping and reduced oil aeration under demanding conditions. It is configured with a remote reservoir to manage oil volume and heat more effectively during sustained use. This model includes multi-way damping adjustment for tuning across changing loads and terrain.

Design & features

  • Closed, pressurised shock design to help maintain stable damping and limit cavitation.
  • Remote reservoir configuration to support consistent performance during long, rough rides.
  • Coil-sprung layout with integrated hydraulic preload adjustment for faster changes to sag when adding luggage or a passenger.

Tuning Controls

  • Triple damping adjustability: rebound damping, plus two compression circuits (typically separated for broader control across different shaft-speed events).
  • Hydraulic spring preload adjustment for practical, tool-minimised preload changes.

Base Setup (factory preset)

This shock is supplied with a baseline setup intended to be a workable starting point. Final tuning should be based on rider mass, typical load (luggage/passenger) and the mix of sealed/unsealed riding, then refined using the external adjusters.

Who is this for?

  • Riders who regularly vary load and want quick preload changes without disassembly.
  • Owners who want wider tuning range to balance comfort, support and traction across mixed-surface adventure use.
  • Anyone chasing more consistent damping feel over long distances where heat and aeration can become factors.

Before You Install

  • Confirm fitment for your exact KTM 990 ADVENTURE R variant and model year before installation.
  • Set rider sag after installation; preload adjustment is only meaningful once sag is in range.
  • Start from the supplied baseline and make changes one adjustment at a time so cause and effect stays clear.

Serviceability/Lifecycle

As a sealed, pressurised design with an external reservoir, this shock is intended to be serviced to maintain oil condition and damping consistency over time. Service intervals depend heavily on use conditions (dust, water crossings, sustained corrugations) and total hours ridden.
