The Ohlins STX 46 Street rear shock is a rider-focused upgrade aimed at improving composure, grip feel and consistency on the road. Built around Ohlins’ proven monotube architecture, it’s designed to deliver controlled damping behaviour through changing speeds and loads. This unit is supplied as a complete rear replacement for the Suzuki GSF 1250 Bandit.

Ohlins | Made to race, perfected to ride

Ohlins road shocks carry over design priorities from competition: predictable damping, strong build quality and parts support for long-term ownership. The goal is not harshness, but control you can trust when the pace or conditions change. That shows up as clearer feedback at the rear tyre and better chassis calmness mid-corner.

Shock design & features

This is an STX monotube rear shock with a separated oil/gas design for stable damping over longer rides and repeated hits. The layout is intended to reduce fade and keep response consistent as temperatures rise. It’s built as a rear mono shock replacement to suit the Bandit’s linkage and packaging.

Tuning controls

External adjustments are provided for rebound damping and compression damping, allowing you to fine-tune ride control to your tyre choice, load and preferred feel. Spring preload adjustment is also provided to set ride height balance and support for solo or loaded riding. These controls are intended to be used in small steps so you can keep the bike composed without losing comfort.

Base setup (factory preset)

Ohlins units are supplied with a baseline setting intended to work with the standard fitment scenario. This gives you a known starting point for sag and damping, then you can tailor the feel to your roads and riding style. If you’re changing spring preload significantly for luggage or a passenger, a rebound check is recommended to maintain control.

Before you install

Confirm your linkage, swingarm bearings and mounting hardware are in good condition so the shock can move freely. After installation, set sag first, then adjust damping to suit. A quick re-check after the first rides helps ensure fasteners are secure and settings match real-world load.

Serviceability/lifecycle

This Ohlins shock is a serviceable unit designed for periodic maintenance to keep damping performance consistent. Regular servicing also allows oil, seals and wear parts to be refreshed, supporting long-term reliability and tune stability. Teknik Motorsport can assist with service intervals and setup guidance based on your usage.

Öhlins Motorcycle Suspension Warranty

New Öhlins motorcycle shock absorbers, front forks and cartridge kits supplied by Teknik Motorsport are covered by the applicable Öhlins manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

Teknik Motorsport is an authorised Öhlins Service Centre and administers warranty claims in accordance with the Öhlins warranty conditions. The service intervals below form part of the maintenance requirements for Öhlins products supplied and supported by Teknik Motorsport.

This warranty is in addition to the consumer guarantees that apply under the Australian Consumer Law.

  • Registered motorcycles — non-competition road use Five years, subject to correct application, installation, setup and servicing every: 20,000 km or two years, whichever occurs first.
  • Registered motorcycles — adventure and light off-road use Five years, subject to correct application, spring rate, setup and servicing every: 10,000 km or annually, whichever occurs first.
  • Unregistered or competition motorcycles Two years for eligible Öhlins MX and Enduro products, subject to inspection every ten hours and servicing every: 30 operating hours or annually, whichever occurs first.

Compliance with the applicable service interval is a condition of the Öhlins manufacturer’s warranty. Evidence of servicing may be required when a warranty claim is assessed.

A seal leak, loss of damping performance or internal wear arising after the prescribed service interval has been exceeded will be treated as a service or maintenance issue rather than a manufacturing defect.

Warranty repairs

Öhlins suspension products are designed to be serviced and repaired. Where a warranty claim is approved, the normal remedy is repair of the customer’s original suspension unit using genuine Öhlins replacement parts.

Replacement of a complete shock absorber, fork or cartridge kit is not automatic and would normally occur only where the product has suffered a manufacturing failure that cannot reasonably be repaired. This is at Ohlins discretion.

Öhlins spare parts and service kits

Öhlins spare parts, seals, bushes, service kits, springs, fluids and individual components are covered only against defects present when supplied.

No fixed age-based warranty applies to wear items, service parts or consumable components. Wear, deterioration, contamination, incorrect installation and damage caused by another component are not manufacturing defects.

Öhlins gives the customer a meaningful five-year warranty on products (Units), provided the suspension is maintained as suspension should be maintained. Teknik supports that warranty locally, can inspect the product properly, and can repair it with genuine parts rather than discarding it.
