The Ohlins AP827 STX 46 Supersport rear shock is an Ohlins unit developed for the Aprilia RSV 1000 R to deliver controlled damping and clear chassis feedback. It uses a gas-pressurised, oil/gas separated design to help maintain consistency as conditions and pace change. External adjustments allow the rear to be tuned for tyres, track surface and rider preference.

Shock design & features

This is a rear mono-shock in the STX 46 Supersport family. The gas-pressurised layout keeps oil and gas separated to help reduce aeration and maintain damping consistency. The design is intended to deliver controlled support through transitions such as braking release and drive off corners.

Tuning controls

The AP827 provides rebound damping adjustment to control how quickly the shock extends after compression, influencing stability and traction over successive bumps. It also provides compression damping adjustment to influence how the rear settles under load, affecting support and feel during corner entry and acceleration. Ride height adjustment is included to fine-tune chassis attitude and balance.

Base setup (factory preset)

The supplied baseline is intended to be a practical starting point with a correctly maintained linkage and an appropriate spring choice. From there, damping adjustments are used to match tyre construction, rider pace and the level of support desired.

Before you install

Verify rear sag and inspect the linkage and bearings for free movement and correct condition before fitting. Make damping changes one at a time and assess traction, stability and line-holding. If balance changes significantly, revisit ride height and overall front-to-rear attitude.

Serviceability/lifecycle

Regular servicing helps maintain consistent damping and seal condition. If performance changes or adjustments become less effective, a service and inspection is recommended to restore correct operation.
